Aircraft for Advanced Training at Hayward Executive

Advanced certificate and rating training for the aspiring ATP and the casual pilot.

Apogee Air is not a flight school nor a flight club, but a high performance/complex advanced pilot training center. We rent two Cessna 182Ps and a Piper twin Comanche PA-30B to the CFIs, CFIIs, and MEIs who teach advanced students, and to the pilots who train with them.

A Note from Cynthia

Welcome to Apogee Air! I started Apogee Air to give Bay Area pilots an opportunity to pursue their advanced training without having to leave the state. I'm a pilot myself, and I run the business. The teaching is done by independent CFIs, CFIIs, and MEIs who are checked out in our airplanes.

This fall my pilots finally got their wish. Several of them had asked me when I was going to add a twin to my line, and now we have one: a Piper twin Comanche PA-30B. She is beautiful! My mechanic went through every log with me, and I passed on a turbo because, under no circumstances, he told me, should I buy a turbo as a trainer.

Everyone who flies with us comes in for an in-person onboarding meeting first. It takes a little longer, but it means I know who is flying our airplanes, and you know exactly how we operate. I look forward to meeting you!

Thank you, Te!

Te was amazing! Her calm demeanor and delightful sense of humor kept her lessons interesting and focused, and all of us fell in love with her immediately...

Two Ways to Fly with Us

We cater to the experienced pilot. All training is Part 61 and one-on-one, for pilots with a private certificate or higher.

For CFIs, CFIIs, and MEIs

Get Checked Out and Bring Your Students

Teach your advanced students in two well-equipped Cessna 182s and a Piper twin Comanche PA-30B at Hayward. Get checked out in each airplane in which you will teach (one 182 checkout covers both Cessna 182s), then book through Flight Circle.

  • You set your own rates, and your students pay you directly
  • Twin time for you and your multi students
  • Written SOPs, so you know exactly how each airplane is operated
  • Nine available examiners (DPEs), including two who give ATP practical tests
  • We recommend carrying your own liability coverage ($1M / $100k) while teaching

  • Commercial certificate
  • CFI / CFII prep

What Will Your Multi-Engine Add-On Really Cost?

Out-of-state programs can look cheaper by the hour. Add airfare, a rental car, and a week of hotels, and staying home in California usually wins. Type in any quotes you've gotten to check for yourself.

The white boxes are editable, and totals update as you type. Changing flight hours in any row changes every row, so the comparison stays equal. Total = flight hours × (plane + instructor), plus travel and hotel. Out-of-state plane and instructor rates are typical published 2026 Piper Seminole school rates in the Orlando and Phoenix areas, and assume a 5-night trip from the Bay Area. Apogee: the twin at $425/hr wet* and an independent MEI at $100/hr. Not counted anywhere: ground instruction, examiner fees, meals, and time off work.

How We Operate

Safety, Professionalism, and Integrity are on our logo. Here's what they look like day to day.

  • Written SOPs. Each airplane has its own written standard operating procedures. You get a copy at onboarding.
  • In-person onboarding. Every renter signs the rental agreement and waiver in person, and flies a checkout in each airplane type they'll use (instructors too).
  • Chosen as a trainer. The twin is normally aspirated, and our mechanic inspected the aircraft and reviewed its maintenance logs before it was purchased.
  • Clear insurance rules. Requirements are stated up front. Renters carry at least $20,000 in physical damage coverage.
  • Published aircraft rates. What you see here is what you pay for the airplane.

Getting Checked Out

Same steps for every renter, and for every instructor who wants to teach in our airplanes.

  1. Create an account in Flight Circle, our scheduling system.
  2. We review it and email you our onboarding packet: a pilot information form, a rental agreement and SOPs for each airplane, and a liability release waiver. Instructors also get our CFI/II/MEI checklist.
  3. Fill out the packet and keep a copy for yourself, but don't sign it yet.
  4. Come to Hayward for an in-person onboarding meeting. We go over the SOPs and sign everything in ink together.
  5. Fly a checkout in each type of airplane you'll use. After that, you book online.

Bringing your own instructor? They go through these steps too before teaching in our airplanes.

Already checked out? Book in Flight Circle.

Instructors: We recommend your own liability coverage of $1M / $100k while teaching.

See you at KHWD! C.

Questions We Get

Do you employ the instructors?

No. The CFIs, CFIIs, and MEIs who teach here are independent. Each one is checked out in our airplanes and follows our SOPs, and each sets their own rate. We're happy to introduce you.

Is it cheaper to train out of state?

For a multi-engine add-on, usually not. Out-of-state programs can look cheaper by the hour, but once you add airfare, a rental car, and a week of hotels, staying home in California usually comes out ahead.

For a large block of twin time, some Florida programs are cheaper per hour, even after travel. If that's what you need, it may be the better deal, and we'll tell you so.

Can you schedule my checkride?

We work with nine available examiners (DPEs), including two who give ATP practical tests, and we'll help you get on their calendar when you're ready. Examiners work for the FAA, not for us, so the result is between you and them.

Can I rent the twin solo?

Yes, if you meet our insurance minimums. Contact us for more details.

I'm coming from out of town. Can you help?

Yes. We have pilot discounts at a local hotel, on rental cars, and at a few area restaurants. Call and we'll help you plan the week.

We offer leaseback, and you earn from hours you aren't flying. We negotiate equitable contracts for both lessor and lessee. Call us for more information.
